[FLC 22-02] Meeting and disscussing the project “Strengthening Communication Capacity for Better Climate Resilience in the Mekong River Delta (CCBCR) – Phase 2”

On 06/03/2023, the Center for Environment and Community Assets Development (CECAD) held a meeting to discuss the project implementation plan and cooperation at the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tien Giang Province.

Attending the meeting were the Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of Finland in Vietnam, representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, representatives of the Department of Finance, representatives of the Department of Information and Communications, representatives of the Department of Education and Training, and representatives of Tien Giang Radio and Television Station.

Currently, CECAD is coordinating with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tien Giang province to implement the project “Strengthening Communication Capacity for Better Climate Resilience in the Mekong River Delta (CCBCR) – Phase 2” funded by the Embassy of Finland in Vietnam. The aim of the project is to mitigate the impacts of saline intrusion and climate change through an effective communication program for better climate change resilience in the Mekong Delta.

At the meeting, the Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of Finland shared that since Phase 1 of the project had certain successes and positive impacts, the Embassy decided to continue implementing Phase 2. The Embassy is also pleased with the local support for the project and looks forward to hearing from the relevant stakeholders about the impacts of the Phase 1 project in the locality and cooperation plans and strategies for the project in the future.

A representative of Tien Giang Radio and Television Station said that in Phase 1, the station carried out a lot of news, reports, and specialized topics to update the situation of saline intrusion and especially, measures to cope with the saline intrusion. Therefore, the community can access information through television, radio, and speakers. in Phase 2, Tien Giang Radio and Television Station expect to continue to participate in the project’s communication.

The representative of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment also shared that in Phase 2 of the project, more coordination could be achieved to promote communication on saline intrusion and climate change in Tien Giang.

In addition, the Department of Education and Training also agreed with the project implementation and would like to contribute to the project activities in Phase 2.

After listening to all the sharing, CECAD affirmed that this is a great opportunity for Tien Giang province when receiving the support of the Embassy, thereby promoting communication and education activities for young people in adapting to saline intrusion and climate change.
