[FLC20-02] PROJECT FINAL WORKSHOP

On May 31, 2022, the Center for Environment and Community Asset Development (CECAD) held the FLC 20-02 Project Final Workshop “Strengthening Communication Capacity for Better Climate Resilience in the Mekong River Delta” funded by the Embassy of Finland in Vietnam.

In 2 years of implementation in Tien Giang province, the project has achieved its objectives. The project’s activities and results are summarized in the video “Journey to cope with saline intrusion in the Mekong Delta: 2 years looking back” and shown at the workshop.

The workshop had the participation of representatives of Water Resources Sub-Departments of Tien Giang, Long An, Kien Giang, and Ca Mau provinces; Tien Giang Provincial Youth Union; departments and government agencies of Tien Giang province; Department of Information and Communication of Ben Tre; Representatives of the People’s Committees of Go Cong Dong and Tan Phu Dong district; representatives of Kieng Phuoc and Phu Tan communes; representatives of households receiving support from the project; and members participating in Photovoice activity (Act 9.2). 

Despite many challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, the project has effectively implemented the proposed activities and received great community support.

In discussion with CECAD, the participants hoped the project would ensure sustainability and continue to be implemented effectively in phase 2 in Ben Tre, Kien Giang, and Ca Mau provinces.

At the end of the workshop, the representative of the Embassy of Finland – Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Huong affirmed that the project has built a very effective communication program that applied both traditional and non-traditional approaches. Ms. Huong believes that the project outcomes would be carried on by the local community long after the project is completed.
