Plant for the Planet 2019 with SK Innovation

On October 1st, CECAD headed to the Red River Delta with SK Innovation to plant mangroves and discuss sustainability initiatives as part of the ongoing “Plant for Planet” mangrove conservation project. The project, facilitated by UNEP Korea and SK Innovation, has been greatly successful and the day was spent congratulating each other on current progress and solidifying commitments for the future.

Members of SK Innovation, CECAD and various environmental initiatives and organizations gathered in Xuan Thuy National Park to discuss conservation and sustainable development efforts being made in both Vietnam and South Korea. Interesting presentations included INGINE’s wave energy converter, MoreThan’s “upcycling” of non-recyclable car materials and Usisan’s plastic recycling on ships that helps mitigate plastic waste in the ocean and save the whales.

After a delicious lunch consisting of seafood from the local area, the group of participants slipped on their gloves and protective footwear, tied on their conical hats, and headed down to the planting site where 400 mangroves were to be planted. Many hands make light work, and the job was done swiftly and with lots of smiles. We are looking forward to continuing our work with SK Innovation and having many more days like this!
