Workshop on “Protecting female farmers’ health through organic farming models and Participatory guarantee system (PGS)”

Under the project “Vietnam Women Improving Lives and Leadership (Vietnam WILL) “, on 30 September 2016, workshop on “Protecting female farmers’ health through organic farming models and participatory guarantee system (PGS)” was held at the Conference Center in Hoa Binh province. The workshop was organized by the Center for Environment and Community Assets Development (CECAD) under the auspices of the Kenan Foundation.

The workshop was attended by representatives from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hoa Binh province, Vietnam Organic Agriculture Association, experts and organic farming farmers.

The workshop was developed to introduce the difficulties of applying organic models and participatory guarantee system (PGS) in Tan Lac district, Hoa Binh province, and the legal framework and techniques on organic farming models to ensure the quality of products sold in the market. Based on that information, solutions for those difficulties were made.

During the workshop, participants discussed about the risks of pesticide abuse to women and girls; the legal requirements for breeding farms and food processing facilities who marketed  their products in and outside the province; PGS standards for organic production in Vietnam; Techniques and input standards in organic production at Luong Son Organic Group; Difficulties in maintaining and developing organic agriculture in Tan Lac; and finally, solutions for PGS standards to be accepted by food hygiene and safety regulations of Hoa Binh province.
