The First General Meeting of Binh Minh Service and Rural Development Co-operative.
On the 1st December 2012, Binh Minh Service and Rural Development Co-operative of Tu Ne and Thanh Hoi Communes, Tan Lac District, Hoa Binh Province held its first General Meeting, term 2012-2015. People attending the meeting included Mr. Vu Quang Hung – Representative of the Tan Lac District Agricultural Office; Mr. Quach Hai – Chairman of Tu Ne People’s Committee; Mr. Bui Van Luong – Tu Ne’s Secretary of the Party; Mr. Bui Van Sinh – Chairman of Thanh Hoi People’s Committee; staff members of the Centre for Environment and Community Assets Development (CECAD) and all the members of the newly-established co-operative.

The aim of the formation of the Binh Minh Cooperative is to help the farmers of Tu Ne and Thanh Hoi communes resolve problems that they are facing while dealing with middlemen individually. Those include high-price inputs, limited connection with consuming markets and price squeezing when selling their products individually. With assistance from CECAD and support from the local authorities, the Binh Minh Co-operative was established. The cooperative has presently 66 members and its charter capital of 250,000,000VND.
The co-operative’s fields of business consist of:
– Producing seedlings and breeding animals, cattle and poultry husbandry, and veterinary and slaughter services.
– Environmental sanitation service: trash collection, classification and recycling. Insects extermination.
– Community-based ecotourism service.
– Supplying feed, veterinary medicine, fertilizers, and safe vegetables as a retailer or wholesaler.
At the meeting, the Co-operative’s Regulations and Draft Business Plan were also passed by the co-operative members. Mr. Dao Van Tap was voted to be the Head of the Co-operative and Ms. Nguyen Thi Oanh was voted to be the Head of the Control Board.

The Binh Minh Co-operative was established in the context where Vietnam’s economy in particular and the world’s economy in general are going through a lot of difficulties. The Co-operative will therefore be facing many challenges during the early days of its establishment. However, with the support from the local authorities and CECAD as well as from the local people, it is hoped that the co-operative could facilitate the farmers in Tu Ne and Thanh Hoi communes to connect to a larger market so that they could easily sell their agricultural products at a better price, thus contributing to their households economy.
