PLANT FOR THE PLANET – APRIL 2019

On April 20th, CECAD had a meeting with the Management Board of Tra Vinh’s Forest Protection Agency to get the agreement on the plantation process as well as the care and protection plans, including:

  • The first planting site for shooting activities is located in My Long Nam commune, Cau Ngang district, while the second planting site for planting activities is located in Dong Cao ward, Dong Hai commune, Duyen Hai district.
  • The mangrove tree for this planting time is Avicennia alba with the total number of 3000 seedlings and the expected planting area for the whole project will be 22 ha.

Additionally, CECAD also arranged a meeting with the president of Le Van Tam primary school to inform the volunteer activities of Korean guest group on April 23rd.

The visit of Korean group to Tra Vinh province

On April 22nd, 48 Korean visitors from SK Innovation and UNEP Korea arrived at Tra Vinh province to prepare for the event series which was held on April 23rd and April 24th.

On the series of events dated on April 23rd and April 24th, a group of twelve students from Tra Vinh University also participated in the event to support the planting activities as well as the volunteer day at Le Van Tam primary school.

In the morning of April 23rd, the group of 48 Korean guests and some Vietnamese representatives of state agencies, universities, as well as non-governmental and non-profit organizations arrived at the first planting site in My Long Nam commune, Cau Ngang district to plant trees and take photo in order to celebrate the debut of The Vietnam Social Value Alliance in the Mekong delta area of Tra Vinh province.

After that, the guest group moved to Tra Vinh University to participate in the MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) signing ceremony. The ceremony was held in order to introduce The Vietnam Social Value Alliance in the Mekong delta area of Tra Vinh province. The alliance includes state agencies; universities, including Tra Vinh University, Hanoi National University, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology; PVEP, Tan Cang Saigon, and a number of SK Innovation subsidiaries; as well as non-governmental and non-profit organizations.

At the end of morning events, the guest group continued to participate in the opening ceremony of the first Social Enterprise in Tra Vinh province, which is a store repairing and replacing motorbikes’ lubricant oil called ZIC Shop.

The planting activity and volunteer in primary school

In the afternoon of April 23rd, the Korean group continued to visit Le Van Tam primary school and gave many presents to students. With the support of CECAD staff and Tra Vinh University students, the guests explained to the children about their planting activities being held in the morning and also gave them a short speech about the value of mangrove forests.

After that, more than 90 students received presents, including stationery, confectionery, and toys prepared from Korea and also played some small games with Korean guests. Both the students and Korean visitors had a great time playing and talking to each other, while all the students were very grateful for the presents that the Koreans gave them.

In the next day, April 24th, the planting event took place at Dong Cao ward, Dong Hai commune, Duyen Hai district with the participation of 48 Korean guests, 12 students from Tra Vinh University and 10 local people living around the planting site. As a result, 3000 seedlings of mangrove trees – Avicennia alba were planted in the site, and the signboard of the project was installed at the planting site.
